Troubleshooting ARK Mods

If your server is not starting, this can be for a number of reasons. If you are using mods, this can be the leading cause, so you need to do some troubleshooting. As ARK doesn't give detailed logs, it can be hard to figure out the exact problem.


REMEMBER to take a backup of all saved data prior to commencing with anything mentioned in this article. We are unable to revert a corrupt map or deletion of work.

Remove all mods from the configuration file or command line, and run the server on the default command line for your map. If the server starts, the mods themselves are the issue.

Check to make sure that all mod files have been installed correctly. Please follow our guide on mod installation if unsure. Automatic Mod Installation and Update for ARK: Survival Evolved

Remove one mod at a time, until the issue stops. You should start with older mods. (ones that haven't been updated more recent)

If you have been using the server and the server fails to start after an update, and you have already tried removing mods, it could be map corruption.



Take a backup of your saved folder, then delete it to launch the server with a clean map. If the server starts fine with the mods loaded you know the map was corrupt.

Restore a backup you took previously. If you don't have any, now is a good time to start taking regular backups, its important to protect you from cases like this.
